Bikram Sambat calendar months and seasons

The Nepali year starts in mid-April with Baishakh and runs through twelve months: Baishakh, Jestha, Ashadh, Shrawan, Bhadra, Ashwin, Kartik, Mangsir, Poush, Magh, Falgun, and Chaitra. Each month is tied to specific seasons and festivals. Shrawan is the monsoon month of green and religious observances. Kartik brings Tihar and Chhath. Falgun and Chaitra celebrate Holi and the Nepali New Year. The calendar's lunar basis means month lengths vary from 29 to 32 days.

Panchanga: Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, and Karana explained

The panchanga (five limbs) is the foundation of the Hindu calendar. Tithi is the lunar day, with 30 tithis cycling through each month. Nakshatra is the constellation the moon occupies, divided into 27 nakshatras. Yoga is a period calculated from the combined motions of sun and moon, with 27 yogas. Karana is half a tithi, with 11 karanas cycling through. These five elements together determine the astrological character of each day and are essential for muhurta (choosing auspicious times).
